Janet, more ideas for your treehouse!

My cousin, Janet, just moved into a beautiful home on a beautiful piece of land.  We've been lovingly referring to it as the "Treehouse" because it's truly in the middle of nothing but trees with outdoor areas that allow you to take it all in!

So, one dose of rustic sophistication, please. Shannonberrey.com is a website I should really spend more time on because I tend to love just about everything I see that she does.

Careful what you "dig"

Remember this post?

MICHAEL Michael Kors MICHAEL Michael Kors Acrylic-Strap Chronograph Watch

This was one of two watches I was "digging".  And in honesty, the one I liked the most.

Well, my birthday was this week and guess who got an awesome, cool watch?  That's right....me!  TBW comes through again.  He had been out of town for over a week, Jane was creating chaos at school and I was just ready to get my reinforcement home!  Well, TBW knew it had been a long few days and made sure my birthday was a huge success and it was.

The only dilemma.....when I put my awesome, cool watch on:

I started to feel like I was channeling:

No offense, Flav.

BW, it's the thought that counts and once again you came through in a big way.   Love you.

For those of you wondering what will come of the watch....I'll be trying on some other options today and making an exchange for something a little more subtle.  The take away: not all rocking looks are meant to be rocked by everyone regardless of "digability".

Just a few things I'm digging....

 These Michael Kors watches:

Banana Republic's new spring line:

cargo pants have been purchased, loving them.

And yes, they look good even if you don't
have toothpick legs.
And they have a ton of great scarves with color combos that make me sooooo happy.  Navy and orange?  Orange and grey?  Love!

                                                                                                                         y scarf

Thank you, Spring!  God really knew what he was doing when he arranged spring after winter!

Happy Monday, all.

Slowly but surely....

So things come together slowly around here but it eventually happens.  Jane's room is no exception.  The painting and addition of the beds from Nettie were big changes back in November.  I wanted to do more  but I had to wait until the budget was ready.

Well, when I was at market this January I worked in a showroom that represents several bedding lines, one of which is Pine Cone Hill.  There's a stripe pattern they have that I knew was perfect for Jane's room and I knew market would be the time to act.  Well, good things come to those who wait. Not only did I get a great price because I worked the show but because they were discontinuing the pattern....tack on an additional discount, please!

So check it out:

After the addition of another duvet and euros.

Close up of the new Pine Cone Hill euros.
Layering makes a difference.  It gives the room depth and interest and detail and that's what really attracts you to a room whether you know it or not.  Now all I'm deliberating is new carpet, some crown molding and you can stick a fork in it!  It's done!

Whoever's marketing Valentine's Day.....

job well done.  Is it just me or does this holiday just seem to get bigger and bigger?  When I was a kid I would get a card from my grandparents that might include five bucks and usually, that was it.  Now it's become a whole gift giving opportunity.

I present to you exhibit A:

Balloons, miniature mailboxes filled with cards addressed to Jane and me, flowers, a stuffed animal and chocolates, the Bread Winner went all out for his girls.

So you're probably wondering how Jane and I took care of TBW.  Well, TBW mentioned wanting a robe and I was on it.  After looking a couple of places I found what I thought would be perfect. Nothing too long, nothing too heavy.  I even payed a little extra to get his monogram put on it.  Let's just say it didn't work out quite like I planned.  The robe was a little shorter than I realized and when he put it on...

Is anyone else getting a visual of Cousin Eddie from Christmas Vacation?  He was a good sport though and Jane thought it was perfect.  Need I remind you, she's three.

Hope you all had a nice Valentine's Day and remember, it's always the thought that counts!

Big Church

Such a great sermon from Andy today.  If you have a chance to tune in to the service at 6pm I think you'll be happy you did.  Andy did a great job looking at the natural tendencies of human nature and those actions that are "fruits" of the spirit.  A huge difference as you can imagine.  All of this in the context of the church and how it's impacted our society.

Let me know if you have a chance to watch it. Would love to hear what you think.

I love couch...

Some of you may be familiar with Brick's confession in Anchorman regarding his love of "lamp." My confession would be my love for these couches.  Sometimes my own practicality is a real downer so to see these homes choosing colors that aren't exactly "safe" is so inspiring.

Sure, it's probably not possible to actually LOVE a couch but I would say I'm in heavy LIKE.

If I was at work today....

I would be a part of this:

This is the initiative the First Lady has taken to fight childhood obesity which I think we would all agree deserves attention.  Even in my own home, I struggle on a daily basis trying to assure my child is getting enough healthy food.  Let's just say, some days are better than others.

If you're interested, go here at 4pm to watch the First Lady's speech live. You'll see the Let's Move icon on the right hand side and that will get you where you want to be.

Well, no Michelle Obama but I did have a legend in my midst this morning.

What?  Not sure who this is?  It's Cinderella, of course.  What you can't tell from this picture is that she had just married Charm.  Prince Charming is what you may call him but seems these two have a special relationship.  No formality necessary.

For anyone keeping track, this has been my first week at work and it's been great.  Coming into my office for the first time was like showing up to a party.  Balloons, streamers, confetti and a welcome sign on the front door. Seriously, when was the last time someone wrote your name in glitter?  It really is a lost art. It was awesome and certainly helped calm the first day jitters.

I hope everyone is doing well and staying warm.  Even though the schedule has beefed up some, still enjoying this blog. Thanks for checking in on us.

this is us...in 3-7 years.

I've been delicately planting the seeds of renovation in the Bread Winner's head for about a year.  I'm thinking it will take another 2 years to get TBW on board and maybe an additional year to make sure he really understands what an undertaking this is going to be.  I did remotely experience a bathroom renovation last year when my parents gutted their bath and it really is a major inconvenience.

This is what I'm thinking. Take out the wall separating our family room and our kitchen and then heighten the ceiling in our breakfast room for an exposed beam sort of vaulted ceiling thing.  I know, it's ambitious but it's fun to think about.

This renovation in Southern Living is as close to us as I've ever seen.

This month's edition is full of good stuff.  Don't have it?  Don't worry, I'll be sharing more in the days to come.

Happy Monday, all.

I've been meaning to tell you...

www.onekingslane.com, you need to check this out.  Different sales every day on home decor, gourmet kitchen products, books, candles, etc. at prices up to 70% off retail.  Their products are on the mid to higher end of things but unique and seem to be of good quality. It's not going to take the place of Target but you might finally buy that cashmere throw you've been wanting and get it for half the price.  What?  Is that just me?  I know. I'm a sucker for discounted, over-priced merchandise. What can I say?

You have to become a member but it's free and painless and then they send the sale of the day to your inbox.  You just have to be on top of things b/c their items go fast. Check it out. Let me know if you get anything good.
